How to Protect Yourself
Verify wiring instructions by phone
Always call a known, verified phone number — not a number from the email — to confirm wiring instructions before sending any funds.
Be suspicious of last-minute changes
Fraudsters often send urgent emails claiming wiring instructions have changed. Treat any change request with extreme caution.
Never use email alone for wire transfers
Email is not secure. Never rely solely on email instructions for sending money. Always confirm via phone.
Confirm receipt of funds
After wiring funds, call your escrow officer immediately to confirm the wire was received in the correct account.
Report suspicious activity immediately
If you suspect fraud, contact your bank and escrow officer immediately. Time is critical in recovering misdirected funds.
